Clothesline Basket

So I didn't get my floors vacuumed like I had wanted to this weekend, but I did cross something off my "Craft Projects To Try" list...

Following these instructions from On My Honor, I made a basket using my sewing machine and 100 yards of cotton clothesline. Nifty, no? The tutorial was really easy to follow, and once I got the hang of it, the construction went fairly quickly. I'm thinking of maybe turning mine into a planter. I'll definitely be making another one (or more) again, though. There's lots of flexibility with this project, so you could really go nuts. You could make all sorts of different shapes and sizes. A nesting set, perhaps? The original post has a few other ideas to help you get fancy, too.

A few notes from my experience with this project, if you want to try it yourself:
  • Be prepared to use a lot of thread. I went through about a spool and a half, and each spool held 250 yards of thread.
  • On a related note, it'll save you time if you have 4 or 5 bobbins of your thread of choice ready to go before you start, so when you come to the end of one bobbin, you can just pop a new one in and keep going.
  • A bottle of Fray Check is nice to have on hand to help finish up the end of the clothesline.
What creative things did you do this weekend?

    1. Thank you! And no, I didn't make the quilt, I was lucky enough to find it in a local thrift store. So almost as good as handmade :)
